Creating a World Cup type system

Postby Kohhal » Mon Oct 15, 2007 10:28 pm

blackshirtt wrote:...Another use of "League with divisons" is group play. For example you can combine all groups of the Euro 2008 qualification into one project.

I think if we can expand the "League with divisions" and modify it then maybe we can also include a World cup system in Joomleague. Instead of having parent groups, if we could make a tier system to include multiple rounds then it could work.

Example :

Tier 1 : Groups A, B, C, D [Round 1]
Tier 2 : Groups W, X, Y, Z [Round 2]
Tier 3 : Groups Q, R, S, T [Quarter Finals]
Tier 4 : Groups U, V [Semi Finals]
Tier 5 : Group F [Final]

It's difficult to explain through text so I found a recent World Cup chart which shows everything that the system would need to do :

http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/e ... lchart.PNG

Does anyone think that by modifying the exist "League with Divisions" format we could achieve this or will this be incredibly complicated???

I'm prepared to do whatever I can to help though I'm not familiar with the Joomla code yet and have some limited knowlege of PHP but I'm also prepared to throw some €€ at this if we can get it up and running.

Hopefully some others want this too and will want to help out anyway they can!

:)

For now you can create 1 project with several divisions.

At the end of the division matches you can go in the knock out round simply by adding the matches and set the count results to no. The standings in the division table only count the games of the division rounds and al the matches are in 1 project.

For example:

I have 1 project with 10 gamedays, Play offs and the TulipBowl. 2 Divisions.
At the end of the division rounds nr1 of poule Noord plays nr2 of poule Zuid, nr2 of poule Noord plays nr1 of poule Zuid and the winner of both matches play for the Tulip Bowl.

Since 0.92 the question: count results? is "hidden"

when entering the scores, set Subsequent decision? to yes and the count results question pops up.

I think that this option should also be there if there is no Subsequent decision. because then you can enter friendly games within a season

it seems like joomleague can not accept more than 20 teams per project, because i am trying to create a project for the under-20 world cup, which has 24 teams, i notice that when i have 20 tems, all the teams would show when i want to add matches to the matchdays, but when its more than, then no team is displayed at all...

hello seyz4all.
i don't think it's a matter of joomleague but one of your server memory settings... i changed not much in backend (using joomla 1.0.15), but there are quite a few more than 20 teams assigned 2 this project: http://www.yourlife.de/component/option ... Itemid,26/ :biggrin:
and there were no problems like you had when adding matches

my php.ini:

Code: Select all

register_globals = off
memory_limit = 24M
safe_mode = off
disable_functions = show_source, system, shell_exec, passthru, exec
error_reporting = E_ALL

JoomLeague has a fix defined number of maximum matches on a matchday.

I think it is 18.

If you add more than this number Joomleague seems to hang but that isn't right. It just breaks the html-generation.

I have to think about where 2 values have to be set up from 18 to your wish and then JL also works with more than 18 teams in a project.

If you find it please write it and if I do, I will  :-\ :confused: :biggrin:

I think it is at line 1074 of admin.joomleague.php in 0.93b

I have a number of 20 there. If you set this to a higher number you should get more matches in the matrix of the backend matchday.

BUt I think there is a value more to edit in this matrix generation code.

You now have a hint. Maybe it helps.  :cool:

that's quite funny... when i said goodbye to JL due to missing time, there was only a limited number of teams 4 showing in backend matrix below actual matchday... but I agree, this really makes sense to expand limitation to complete component... except you're from britain and have a favour 4 premier league... or sth similar... :D

but he said he can't create matches with a number of more than 20 teams, right? not only he has no matrix shown...

OH, LOOKING @ HEADING OF THIS POSTS, I UNFORTUNATELY HAVE 2 SAY: "WE ARE  :offtopic: HERE !"
