Where to put the images?

About the correct images folder.....I'm not sure about this if I read the joomla 1.5 api documentation

the meaning is to differ between

'Programm images' which the programm, GUI needs to run

and

'User images' which are not needed. The programm works with or without this images

You can change the path in the joomla configuration page

You know, I know, but ....  :whistling: and if you have a server with wwwrun-prob you have one more directory to chmod 777.

As far as I know these images should be in the assets/images/ folder

ok, now I've read many pages in the web to solve this prob and found 'nothing' helpfull  :'(
What I found is that most components store the images in ..../images/component_name
I think we do that too. ../images is the default folder and if a user want to change/add an image
the first look is in this folder. If we use another folder most of the new topics in our forum are:
How can I change or where to save the images for team_logos, players, playgrounds, teams, events, flags ....  :D

I understand the problem,
and maybe you're totally correct that we should move all (frontend) images to the images folder instead of the media folder.

But the media tag in the installer is copying all these imagesfiles into the media folder, I really do not understand why they made it like this...

Maybe another developer has something to say about this?

I think that ALL images should be in the folder called "/images/com_name....". I spent half a day for searching the team-icons  :D. At least i found it in the media-folder.  :'( :'(

Don't know what the best way should be.

I also tried to find the one and only solution but I could't.

What I found is:

In Joomla 1.5 the media dir was created to make the system more secure.
http://blog.joomlatools.eu/2008/09/hidden-feature-joomlas-media-folder.html

I think also in 1.6 it won't give a restriction to have all media files in /joomla/media
http://groups.google.de/group/joomla-dev-cms/browse_thread/thread/083373f7d67c35f0

I think by adding using something like the following code would give us a solution to also use the image dir during an installation:

Code: Select all

<!-- Site Main Media File Copy Section -->
   <media folder="site/images" destination="com_communicator/images">
      <filename>delete.png</filename>
      <filename>mail_send.png</filename>
      <filename>subscribe.png</filename>
      <filename>unsubscribe.png</filename>
      <filename>index.html</filename>
   </media>

What I found out is, that we also don't do it the right way with assets in the frontend and the js etc. I understood it the way that the assets dir should be inside media/com_joomleague. Maybe I am wrong and dind't understand the english text as it was meant but I understood that this way.

All assets files used in the backend should be inside the inside the admin-com_joomleague_asstes dir to make JL backend a little bit more secure.

What we should do with at least the images called from the frontend???

Don't really know. I also changed left the media dir of Jopmmla to be images/stories as I make an update and have all media files used in old JL data and also in old articles of Joomla are inside images/stories and it's sub-dirs.

60% images dir and 40 % media dir. That is what I think at the moment. But maybe I also haven't seen the real idea which lays behind the media dir of Joomla 1.5
