Import Ical in Outlook 2003

Postby licausse » Fri Aug 07, 2009 4:07 pm

Dear All,

I failed to import Joomleague Ical exports (.ics file) into MS Outlook 2003 ... but i found a solution

The problem : MS Outlook complains about "bad format" in the .ics file although the format is not bad according to the RFC.  However it doesn't fit to MS Outlook expectations ... and MS Outlook gives a bad hint (Check Lunar date / Gregorian date)

I experience various contents in the .ics file ... and everything works fine if the .ics file provides :
- the METHOD property of the VCALENDAR object (value REQUEST or PUBLISH)
- the UID property of each VEVENT object
- the DTSTAMP property of each VEVENT object

Now, tell me ...
- have anyone encounter this problem ?
- is there any official patch availiable ? (otherwise I got one)

In my patch :
METHOD:PUBLISH (so Outlook doesn't show Accept/Deny toolbar)
UID:JML+$game->match_id
DTSTAMP:$DTSTART
CLASS:PUBLIC

I also need ical.php modification.

First thing
I'm trying to import matches from my JoomLeague site (on WAMP server) .ics file from url to same site calendar component JEvents. But only match it imports is the last one if there is no UID parameter for each VEVENT.
From url calendar is updated so I dont want to import ics file.
I'm not programmer so how ical.php should be modified?

Secondly
I want to offer my site users possibility to subscribe internet calendar from my site. Have anyone succeeded to make any which work with Outlook?

--Outlook only imports the last match--
I have encountered the same problem (but I think, it was only the first one).

I think you have double-clicked on the ics file to launch import. In this case Outlook imports one event (I don't know if it's a bug or a feature  ;))

If you want Outlook to import all events, you have to use the import menu in Outlook
choose "File/Import & Export" ... and it should work.

-- UID not set --
Here is my version of ical.php with some enhancements
inserted UID, DTSTAMP, METHOD, CLASS

(see attached file)

The UID i choose is not the best (dont take site referenced into account) but it works if all you events come from one site.

-- Internet Cal subscription --
What do you mean ? Subscribers will be notified every time an event is created (or updated) ?
It could be a kind of newsletter with .ics file attached ?
You do not have the required permissions to view the files attached to this post.

My address book in ms outlook is very big. But several weeks ago I ran into a problem. My ms outlook started working incorrectly and especially address book. Only a new tool from Inet could change the situation. Besides tool owns many usable facilities for working and resolving any problems relation to outlook - broken pst email recovery.
