Ok I want to test out JL for Joomla 1.5. Where can I DL the files from? Do I have to join the project on JoomlaCode to download it or can you give me a direct link for it?

Hi,

To help testing/ developing JoomLeague 1.5 you have to create a test environment.

Install Joomla 1.5.x (native)
install turtoise SVN
Create a folder on your HD
Right click on that folder and choose SVN Checkout
URL: http://joomlacode.org/svn/joomleague/br ... league_1.5
User: anonymous
Install the component (from the created folder) in Joomla 1.5.x

If you find bugs, please first check if the bug already exists,
if not. add them to the joomlacode.org tracker
http://joomlacode.org/gf/project/joomleague/tracker/

Could you please explain me what I have to do for downloading a copy of the new joomleague and test it?

OK,

We have a break with new additions /features.
We are going to bugfix the backend first!

To all testers:
If you find a bug in the backend, please add it to the joomlacode tracker

To all developers:
Lets concentrate all on the backend bugs, please assign a bug on your name first.
So we do not work on the same bug at the same time!!!
After commiting the fix, please close the bug.

If we are finished with these backend bugs, we are going to concentrate on the frontend bugs

Thx

Keep up the good work.....

joomleague for ever !!!

Thank you Timoline and all other developers in the past! Especially our "BugMinator" Fred in the last weeks!!!

For all who want to work on the last bugfixes of JoomLeague 1.5a:

Install a test environment

To help developing JoomLeague 1.5 you HAVE to create a test environment.

  * Backup old tables from an existing jl 0.93b, (MySQL-Dumper is good for big databases - Just backup the tables beginning with _joomleague)
  * Install Joomla 1.5.x (native)
  * Install tortoise SVN
  * Create a folder on your HD
  * Right click on that folder and choose SVN Checkout
  * URL: http://joomlacode.org/svn/joomleague/branch/com_joomleague_1.5
  * User: anonymous
  * Install the component (from the created folder) in Joomla 1.5.x
  * Restore backed up old tables of JoomLeague (MySQL-Dumper)
  * (Not available yet) if needed, run a script that updates the old tables with new fields but the installroutine should solve most of the updates

SVN

A tool that we use, to work together on the JoomLeague 1.5 project

http://joomlacode.org/svn/joomleague//branch/com_joomleague_1.5

This is the URL for "the new" JoomLeague 1.5  (here are all the files)
If you install Tortoise SVN (or another SVN client), you download some sort of local copy of these files. If you make a change to your local files,
you can "commit" (read: upload) the changes to that website

So all developers can work together with the same (new) files

The proper workflow with version control. In a nutshell:

  * Update your view
  * Make some changes
  * Test your code
  * Update again
  * Solve merge conflicts, if necessary
  * Commit

An SVN client

Here a list of SVN clients for the different Operating Systems

Windows: Try "Tortoise SVN" from http://tortoisesvn.tigris.org. This tutorial focuses on this client.

Here is also more info http://www.cs.plu.edu/~dwolff/svn-tutorial/svn-tutorial.html
Linux - Unix: The command line SVN client can be installed for your distribution of choice. See: http://subversion.tigris.org

MacOS X: Subversion is available through Fink, or see http://subversion.tigris.org or http://versionsapp.com/

Ready?

If you think you ready to commit some new code/bug fixes.

  * Make an new account on joomlacode.org
  * Send a PM to xBlues on joomleague.de
  *
        o send him your account name of joomlacode and ask access on SVN and developers forum
        o Also, tell him something about your programming background.

Welcome to the JoomLeague-Team...

And a little bit more info about the problems you had, which system, which Joomla Version, local or online, which provider and which error message during the installation would help us very much!!!

Btw.: During a local installation you should probably cancel your virus checker because a lot of files are copied and this could cause a timeout problem with PHP. Or you have a good timeout in PHP!

The first problem I find is with the templates of the frontend: when I try to show, for example, players information I got an error message:
Missing template: [show_player.tpl]
Missing template: [overall.tpl]

:biggrin: :cool:

not really a bug, but we have it on the list to fix it

workaround:
Just go to the backend,
select a project,
go to frontend settings.

select the "missing" template, and save the template

thats it

I tried but it doesn't work...
I have another problem: when I add a player to a club, it seems not to save it. In fact, if I add a player, after saving I can't find him in the team roster

1 it should work!, just tested it
2.Did you assign positions? and give the player a position?

We can discuss it here:

I always like persons who want to work on the deveopment of JL. But...

I think it would be a sign if you would add your JL information (version, url etc.) into your footer if you want to be a real developer of JL.

Otherways I have to think that you don't stand behind the deveoper team :(

It would also be fine if you would send us other developers a short message about you as a person, your work you want to do in the developer team, and your site so we can get an idea about who you are :)

Personally lines like this give me an uneasy feeling. Consider that as a developer you create a product that people are interested in or not. As this is an open source product and you seem to create a community, people are likely to come and share their experiences with your product. Sometimes this is positive, sometimes not. Even when there is critisism, this is meant to improve the product.

With remarks like this and 'demanding' that people put their used version of your product in their signature, I wonder what your intentions are. In my view community and 'communism' start to get confused.

I invite you to have an open and respectful attitude towards your community and users. Forcing them to do things in my opinion is not the way. For me the attitude of the development team stimulated me to create my own league extension. The first version is now out and in use and I'm glad I did it and how it turned out. Still I would have been fine to use Joomleague and to contribute to it's transition to 1.5 native when you used a different attitude. Of course your attitude is your choice, just consider your attitude has consequences that might differ from what you're after.

Since your extension is named in the book 'Professional Joomla', you can expect a growing group of people to look at it. Will you be able to cope with that?

Criticism is always good as long as it is productive!

I understand what you mean. But please let us decide what we want to ask people who want to be developers here and want to work in a team.

If there are rules, these should be followed by everyone. That makes life a little bit easier. As easier if you are developer, supporter and sometimes also "babysitter". This all for nothing in our freetime...

So please give us a chance to work and live as we want to!

Hello! My name is Wolfgang "And_One" Pinitsch, 35, and i am from Austria. I work as professional Developer since 1996. Companies were DaimlerChrysler and the past 5 Years Hyperwave. I used to code with VB, .asp, VBA, Lotus Notes, C#, C++, .php, Oracle, SQL Server and MySQL and pure Javascript / AJAX (client and serverside). I think i am familiar with the Software Engineering Process, Quality Assurance and Usability Design of Applications, especially Web Apps.
Some years ago i was the main organizer of the biggest austrian Lanparties(~700), the biggest austrian e-sport League called Strikecup (~3000 players in 60 divisions over ~8 Saisons), later aonGamepoint League (as part of the austrian telekom community plattform). With a straight focus on e-Sport, was i promoted to the clanleader of "Mit freundlichen Gruessen / Austria" in 2000. I still take the part of an active Player and Clanleader in MfG/a.
I coded the website http://www.mfga.at in 2003 and plan to replace the Page with a Joomla 1.5 native Site with Joomleague by the end of this year. Beside my clan, am i founder and coder of http://www.schlachtumeuropa.at, which is a campaign for Day of Defeat. If i have some free time, i used to try myself as a dj with electronic body music, DJ Project: http://www.reaktor4.at (soon v4 with J1.5). Some years ago i tried to do a complete rework for a web based online game, which i stopped after some months of developing due lack of good gfx artists and some private troubles with my girlfriend ;)
i am here to help with the upcoming J1.5 release of joomleague and try bring in fresh ideas to make the component useable also for the e-sports theme.

ps: my last english lesson was 20 years ago ;)
