Working with extended fields

Postby Krisstoffer » Thu Apr 14, 2011 2:48 am

Greetings, I've read over the wiki (and made a few changes on route to the wiki) as well as skimmed over a forum search but have yet to turn anything up that leads me in the right direction. Basically I'm wanting to add an extended field 'twitter' to players.

I have already managed to do this via the easy option of the XML file person.xml and thats great shows up but it shows as plaintext, if someone could provide a quick example of a hyperlink field that would be real helpful - thanks.

thanks for the quick response, sadly however that doesn't appear to be it or something I've missed in the loop. Here is the what it presents me with when using type=link:

Code: Select all

Element not defined for type = link

try to add our core elements path

[syntax="xml"]
<params group="Extended Preferences..." addpath="/administrator/components/com_joomleague/elements">[/syntax]

and add the custom attribute display="link" to your twitter xml definition like

[syntax="xml"]
<param name="JL_EXT_PERSON_TWITTER" type="text"
label="JL_EXT_PERSON_TWITTER"
description="JL_EXT_PERSON_DESCR_TWITTER" display="link">
</param>
[/syntax]

Getting closer! and thanks again for the support ok so this is where I'm at now, added as suggested and it does create a link but with no input box allowing me to enter an account (see screenshot) The link in turn points to: http://<removed as not to spam>/administrator/index.php?option=com_joomleague&controller=person&task=edit&cid[]=6

Ah ok i understand. In backend an edit field and on frontend a link. this is currently not implemented. add a feature request on http://bugtracker.joomleague.at.

if you wanna hack it yourself, here is the involved file: http://gitorious.org/joomleague/joomlea ... s/link.php

drat!
Firstly thanks for the help and yep I think I'll do a quick clone and hack it into place and of course open a feature request too - thanks again to you both.

I see this has been marked fixed (well received the email saying so) updated to latest GIT version and confirm all is good - I had not even got around to cloning the repository yet so that's awesome thanks!

It's actually in the latest GIT release seems the devs just went ahead and put it in and then changed some of the existing text items (website2 for example) to type="link" so if you follow the instructions a few posts up it should work (minus language strings)

added the elements to the wki: http://www.joomleague.at/dokuwiki/doku ... q:extended - however appears page creation requires permissions so was unable to document the link element (which now stretches across two forum posts :P )

Hallo,

Manfred

some short explanation how to get a additional field in my joomleague.

ps. i'm not a coder and sometimes it is very hard to understand the short "slang" of some post's.
so i post a answer. and just get another short response :-(

hmmm, well its explained in the wiki:
http://www.joomleague.at/dokuwiki/doku ... q:extended

thats why I asked: what is it you do not understand?

But you also can check this post:And_one created an extended data creator, so no need to edit xml files.:
